Hotel Flooring Trends

resilient flooring in a hotel guest room - blog post

There are two hotel flooring trends that we’re seeing emerge. One is in higher priced hotels and the other in more moderate rate hotels. In upscale hotels, we’re installing luxury vinyl planks throughout the lobby, guest eating areas, and other public spaces. In moderate modern style hotels, we’re installing resilient flooring in the guest rooms rather than carpet. There are pros and cons to both of these hotel flooring trends.

Luxury Vinyl Flooring

As a Gulf Coast area flooring company, we’ve installed flooring in hotels along the beaches. Many of those hotels had porcelain tile. However, because porcelain tile can be slippery and is hard to stand on, many hotels are opting for vinyl flooring instead. Upscale hotels choose luxury vinyl flooring (LVF) as it more realistically imitates either hardwood floors or tile flooring. The biggest downside to luxury vinyl products is the cost. Traditional sheet vinyl and vinyl tiles can be half as much as a luxury vinyl product. However, LVF tends to last twice as long and when comparing quality LVF to sheet vinyl. Additionally, the luxury vinyl products are more scratch-resistant which is great for hotels near the beaches.

Resilient Flooring in Guest Rooms

Recently, some hotels have begun to include resilient flooring in guest rooms. As a commercial flooring company, and family who enjoys travel and staying in guest rooms, we can see the pros and cons of this more than other hotel flooring trends.

The positives are that resilient flooring is easier to clean and keep clean. Your housekeeping staff can dry mop it daily and between guests run a damp mop or steamer along the floors which takes the same amount of time as vacuuming. Cost and time involved with carpet cleaning becomes a thing of the past. Quality resilient flooring resists stains. Because it will need replacing less often, as an investment, even a higher end resilient flooring ends up being a cheaper investment in most cases.

However, resilient flooring isn’t one of the hotel flooring trends everyone embraces. It doesn’t absorb as much sound as carpet. Some guests may prefer the feeling of carpet beneath their feet rather than a resilient flooring material.
